Writing and Spelling Assessment

Service Description

Wondering about your child's writing and spelling levels? Through this one time assessment with a certified reading specialist, your child's spelling level will be assessed using Words Their Way, a UVA based program that will test not only students correct spelling, but their ability to spell patterns as well. Students will also be given a timed writing prompt to complete during class. This will be scored using the 6+1 writing program's rubrics, which provides information on idea generation, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. Each area will be scored as beginning, emerging, developing, capable, experienced or exceptional. Their writing fluency will also be assessed and compared to grade level norms. Students will be asked to email a photo of their writing when the class is done. They can use additional time at home to complete their writing. After class, you will receive an email with the following information: -Your child's spelling level -Your child's writing fluency -Your child's writing rubric scores Please allow 3-5 days to receive the above information.
